Frequently
Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Shadow's backup eSIM connectivity service.

Important: Your phone must be carrier-unlocked to use Shadow's backup eSIM service. A locked device cannot activate a secondary eSIM profile. Contact your primary carrier or check your device settings to confirm your unlock status before signing up.

01 — General

The Basics

What is Shadow?
Shadow is a backup connectivity service designed for mobile professionals. It provides a secondary data line via eSIM that stays in the background — ready to take over the moment your primary carrier experiences a dead zone, congestion, or an outage.
Is Shadow a new mobile carrier?
No. Shadow doesn't replace your current carrier — it complements it. Think of it as a "spare tire" for your internet connection. You keep your existing number and plan, and Shadow provides the backup data you need when your main provider fails.
Who is Shadow built for?
Shadow is for anyone whose income depends on a stable mobile connection:
  • Rideshare & Delivery Drivers — prevent dropped orders and lost GPS navigation.
  • Real Estate Agents — never miss a client's call in a basement or remote showing.
  • Field Sales & Mobile Professionals — maintain access to CRMs and communication tools on the move.

02 — How It Works

Behind The Tech

Do I need a second phone or extra hardware?
No. Shadow is entirely software-based. It uses your phone's built-in eSIM technology to provision a secondary line on your existing device — no dongles, hotspots, or second phones required.
How does Shadow know when my signal is dropping?
The Shadow app monitors your primary connection in the background. It looks for more than just "bars" — it tracks data congestion, latency, and complete outages to detect issues before they impact your work.
Is the switch to the backup line automatic?
Shadow is designed to get you back online in seconds. When the app detects a failure on your primary line, it facilitates a rapid switch to your Shadow backup line — no searching for Wi-Fi or toggling airplane mode required.

03 — Compatibility & Setup

Your Device

Will Shadow work on my phone?
Shadow works on most modern smartphones that support eSIM technology:
  • iPhone: Model 11 and newer.
  • Android: Most recent Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy S-series, and other flagship devices.
Your device must be carrier-unlocked to activate a secondary eSIM. Download our full compatibility guide below for a detailed device list.
Quick check: Dial #06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your device supports eSIM and is compatible with Shadow.
How do I set up Shadow?
Setup is a simple three-step process:
  1. Download the Shadow app.
  2. The app provisions your secondary backup eSIM automatically.
  3. Shadow begins monitoring your connection in the background.

05 — Privacy & Battery

Under The Hood

Does the Shadow app drain my battery?
Shadow is optimized for background efficiency. Our monitoring technology is designed to have a negligible impact on your battery life — similar to a weather or navigation app running in the background.
Is my data private?
Absolutely. Shadow only monitors your connection health to ensure you stay online. We do not track your personal browsing data or sell your information to third parties.
